A busy social life is a great way to practise your English while making friends and experiencing the culture. All our courses have a year round social programme, which means there is always something to do and new friends to meet.
Sightseeing
Known as the valley that changes the world, Ironbridge was at the heart of the Industrial Revolution some 250 years ago. Today, this deeply wooded valley is full of unique museums and monuments, and attracts thousands of visitors each year. There is the world's first bridge made of iron, hence Ironbridge, and the town also provides riverside walks through the steep wooded gorge and charming shops, pubs and restaurants.
The Wrekin is Shropshire's highest viewpoint and well worth the steady climb to see the beautiful countryside and the river Severn cutting through the fields and small towns.
Right in the heart of Telford is the award winning 450-acre Town Park. One of the largest in Europe, it includes formal gardens, play areas, natural woods, meadows and pools.
Shrewsbury also has its own park, which hosts the much-acclaimed Shrewsbury Flower Show each August. The town has its own sites, combining medieval buildings, including its own castle, with modern architecture.
Entertainment
Telford has its own 10 screen cinema, with cinemas also in nearby Shrewsbury and Bridgnorth. The Oakengates Theatre is the town's main entertainment centre, playing host to many international stars.
Shrewsbury's Music Hall is a venue for concerts plays and shows. Within easy reach are the cities of Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham, each of which has entertainment centres to be proud of.
For wining and dining, Telford has family pubs and restaurants serving meals for all tastes, ranging from Chinese to Italian, French and, of course, quality British food too.
Sports
"Sport for All" is more than just a slogan with Telford operating no fewer than 10 leisure centres, boasting swimming pools, indoor sports halls together with facilities for outdoor sports. Football (soccer) is the major sport in the area. The Telford International Centre has indoor squash, badminton and tennis facilities and a fitness centre. There are golf clubs nearby for both novice and expert. Telford offers a ski-slope for tobogganing and snowboarding, and an ice rink for skating and ice hockey.
